A1 Assets and City of Orlando Collects 25,000 Pounds of Recycled Electronics

LONGWOOD, Florida (February 28, 2013) – The statistics are staggering: Only about ten to eighteen percent of globally discarded electronics are recycled each year. However, thanks to the efforts of Central Floridians focused on sustainability, 25,000 pounds of local electronics will never see a landfill, including 6,270 pounds of recycled televisions, 3,467 pounds of recycled computers, and 3,327 pounds of recycled printers.

Starting as early as 9 am, cars lined Robinson Street at Orlando Festival Park last Saturday for an electronics recycling event hosted by A1 Assets, Inc. and the City of Orlando. Volunteers including A1 Assets, Keep Orlando Beautiful, and Miss Florida Collegiate 2013 Elizabeth Tran greeted donors and hauled computers, laptops, TVs, printers, mobile devices, and more from the cars of Orlando residents looking to properly recycle their old electronics.

Reducing e-waste has long been a priority for A1 Assets, the only certified R2 and ISO 14001: 2004 electronics recycler in Central Florida. Focused on promoting eco-awareness at a grassroots level, the February 23 event was the perfect opportunity to reclaim electronics for responsible recycling. Additionally, Orlando residents won’t have to worry about their data falling into the wrong hands – all hard drives collected from the event will be wiped and sanitized in accordance to NIST guidelines.

Missed the event but still have electronics to recycle? A1 Assets’ next electronic recycling event will be held in conjunction with the City of Winter Park April 13 at the Public Works Compound located at 1409 Howell Branch Road. In addition, drop off is always available at A1 Assets headquarters located at 1100 Charles Street in Longwood, and all three Refresh Computer store locations in Central Florida.
