FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LONGWOOD, Florida (February 1, 2013) – According to the Environmental Protection Agency, Americans throw away approximately 2.4 million tons of electronic waste every year. In a grassroots effort to promote local eco-awareness, A1 Assets and the City of Orlando are joining forces to collect discarded electronic equipment Saturday, February 23 from 9am to 1pm at Orlando Festival Park.
“What most people don’t realize is that a substantial portion of the electronics they use every day – everything from office equipment to mobile devices to laptops – are not only harmful for the environment, but also extremely recyclable. We are excited to collaborate with the City of Orlando in an effort to reduce unnecessary electronic waste and keep Central Florida beautiful,” says A1 Assets President Andrew Hoopper.

As an electronics recycler committed to environmental responsibility, public safety, and sustainable living, A1 Assets is an industry leader in end of life technology solutions. Last year, A1 Assets achieved official certification status for both Responsible Recycling Practices (R2) and ISO 14001: 2004 standards, establishing them as the only certified R2 and ISO 14001: 2004 recycler in Central Florida. The Longwood company continuously dedicates themselves to reducing environmental impact and protecting their employees, customers, and community from potential hazards associated with material recovery.
This free event is open to businesses and individuals in the Central Florida community who want to dispose of end of life electronics in a responsible, eco-conscious way. The following electronic items will be accepted: computers, monitors, laptops, televisions, telephones, office equipment, batteries, stereo equipment, games, and mobile devices. A1 Assets will wipe and sanitize all hard drives and embedded memory of donated items according to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) guidelines and organizational best practices.
Another perk of the event besides making Orlando a greener, cleaner place: A1 Assets will be raffling off a free Lenovo ThinkPad Tegra 2 Android Tablet with pen. All those who wish to enter only need to complete a registration form when they drop off their electronics via drive-thru beginning at the park’s East Robinson Street entrance. There will be volunteers on hand to unload donated items.
